Sea Monster TV Cabinet or Buffet
This piece was inspired by antique world maps, which often showed sea monsters in the ocean. It is a tryptic sculpted in oil-based clay on boards, silicone molds taken, and cast in black polyurethane resin with a pearlescent finish on it, before being framed into three cabinet doors. The left and right doors are relief depictions of North and South America, and Europe, Asia, and Africa, respectively. The center door is a relief of a young boy single-handing a small sailboat in the Atlantic Ocean, unaware of the serpentine sea monster stalking him.
This piece has been donated to Fort Lewis College radio station KDUR’s annual auction fundraiser, however it is reproducible. For inquiries into purchasing furniture, please contact the artist.
